On November 8th and 9th, Wickertree hosted the St. Louis
based Jensen-Schmidt Tennis Academy for Down Syndrome.
The highly energized instructional program offered basic
tennis skills and a fitness program for children with
Down Syndrome in a fun and positive environment. Each
of the thirteen participants partnered with a buddy volunteer
in order to maximize their experience. Over the course
of the two days, the athletes along with their buddies,
traveled through different stations focusing on forehand
and backhand techniques, volley skills, balance exercises
and coordination games. There are certainly some budding
tennis stars! The weekend was truly a rewarding and motivational
experience for everyone who attended. We are looking forward
to inviting the Jensen-Schmidt Tennis Academy back to
Wickertree next spring for an even bigger and better event.
In addition, per the request of the athletes and their
families, Doug DiRosario and Stephanie Anderson will be
serving-up more fun by providing a weekly program of tennis
and fitness for these athletes.
